Sound trippin'

I have been going nuts for the past few months because of the loss of my Sony MiniDisc MZ-N707. It wasn't lost. It was just damaged beyond repair (damaged lens... no more recording or WRITING of any sort to my MDs) and can only be used for playing now. It's just basically a "player" now that plays all of my stock MDs.

I've been itching to put tons of my new music into a portable thingy, but my MD is still dead (what am I trying to expect? Resurrection?). I've basically selected some portable audio devices that fit what I am. The Sony MiniDisc MZ-RH10, the iPod Shuffle, and the Palm LifeDrive (I know, I know... I'll explain later).

Sony MiniDisc MZ-RH10
Pros:
  • great for DJ work
  • I've been accustomed to MDs for YEARS
  • I'm an MD fan
  • relatively great battery life
  • removable media (allows for "albums" or "playlists")
  • great sound quality
  • records mic-in/line-in on the fly
  • It's an MD. Period.
Cons:
  • bulky for exercise, jogging, martial arts
  • steep price
  • I can't think of any other con right now

iPod Shuffle
Pros:
  • great weight!
  • great size!
  • relatively low price (compared to my choices)
  • I always play stuff in Shuffle mode, so this thing suits me PERFECT.
  • Did I say I ALWAYS played everything in Shuffle? Even in Winamp? Car? MP3? CD? Games? I never look at my MD anyway when skipping tracks.
  • great sound quality (according to reviews)
  • great style to lure chicks in (if nobody ever got it, that was SARCASM, a JOKE... As if style was ever a part of my life... DUH!)
Cons:
  • high price (512MB) compared to the MD's 1GB, the LifeDrive's 4GB, and other of their features
  • non-removable media
  • non-removable/replacable battery
  • shorter battery life compared to the MD
  • I'm an MD fan.

Palm LifeDrive
Pros:
  • It's not just a portable audio player. It's a LifeDrive!
  • It's a LifeDrive! (I mean, it has TONS of other functions aside from music)
  • 4GB of space is definitely competitive.
  • I'm in need of a new PDA.
  • I can take notes on the go (again! finally! if I take this one, that is)
  • Navigating through your music using a stylus as opposed to using "jog buttons" or other buttons is WAY better (I think)
Cons :
  • STEEEEEEP price that it makes me wanna cry
  • SHORT battery life (according to reviews online)
  • HEAVY stuff (literally)
  • sound quality not at par with audio players (according to reviews online)
  • Did I say I'm an MD fan? ^_^

With all of that said, these are the prices I've seen...
Sony MD MZ-RH-10 = $300.00 (PHP16,800... none available locally)
iPod Shuffle = PHP6,999.00 ($125)
Palm LifeDrive = PHP30,500.00 ($545)

To sum things up, the MD falls right smack in the middle of these gadgets. That's price-wise, weight-wise, and feature-wise. The MD still wins in regards to battery life, storage, music modification, sound quality, and STYLE (although this one matters the least to me... DUH).

Wahahaha!! I don't even know why I posted this in my blog! ... ...
